Something small and simple I can crochet?

Ok, so a club that I'm in is having a holiday get-together. We're supposed to bring a gift, with a maximum budget of $10. I figured that it might be fun to make something instead of buying something(plus it'll save me a few bucks). I know how to crochet, but the only things I know are the chain stitch and the single crochet. Any ideas of easy things to make that preteen/early teenage girls might enjoy? (P.S. If you have an idea, a pattern would be very much appreciated.)
